Copper Rod Rolls

Copper rod is usually produced on continuous casting rolling lines. At Bowers & Jones the roll manufacture is tailored to suit the demands on the roll at each stage of the mill. The quality of the working rolls is crucial to the economic operation of the mill and the quality of the copper rod produced.

Superior Material Properties

Bowers & Jones has developed a range of high performance hot-working tool steels with excellent hot toughness, increased high temperature strength and low susceptibility to thermal cracking.

Only high grade tool steels, produced using the latest steel manufacturing techniques, for obtaining a high level of purity, are used by Bowers & Jones. During the material production stages, our hot working tool steels are specifically heat treated to achieve a fine homogenous structure, which has a significant influence on the performance characteristics of the rolls.

The classic grade DCV has proved successful in most hot working applications. Excellent results have also been obtained in the early mill stands with rolls made from our WM28. For intermediate and final sizing rolls our WM30, with its good high temperature strength and resistance to tempering can also prove beneficial. These grades have properties which exceed that of the common H13 (1.2344) material.

DCM-HP1 & HP1Premium

For highly demanding applications, the special high performance hot working tool steels DCM-HP1 and DCM-HP1Premium are available. They distinguish themselves from the standard grades by offering an improved resistance to thermal cracking.

Investment in the high performance hot working steels DCM-HP1 or DCM-HP1Premium can be highly cost effective due to the much improved service life in highly demanding applications.

High perfomance CrMoV – based hot working tool steel.

DCM HP1Premium is manufactured using a specialised metallurgical process offering a high degree of purity with very low content of trace elements and maximum homogeneity. The production sequence includes specific treatments designed to improve the structure. Compared to conventionally produced grades the steel distinguishes itself through its very high hot strength while simultaneously showing an increased toughness. The chemical composition of DCM HP1Premium has been selected so as to combine an excellent thermal conductivity and a high resistance to heat checking.

Hot working tool steel for highest requirements:

Because of its very good high-temperature strength and toughness, the steel is excellent for highly stressed hot work tooling, e.g. for extrusion tooling, hot forming rolls or copper rod rolls.
