Bowers & Jones has been named as a finalist for a prestigious business award in recognition of its manufacturing excellence, consistent growth and recent achievements.

The Bilston-based manufacturer of equipment for the international metal forming industry is up for the Small Business of the Year prize at the Express & Star Business Awards 2025, organised by the leading news brand to honour the business success stories of the Black Country and Staffordshire. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at The Halls Wolverhampton on Thursday June 5.

The finalist placing comes on the back of Bowers & Jones achieving a successful six months for awards recognition.

The company was crowned Export Business of the Year at the Insider Media Made in the Midlands Awards 2025 in April, having been named as a finalist in the Manufacturer of the Year (under £25m) category too.

Bowers & Jones also enjoyed success at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Awards in November, where they won the Manufacturing & Engineering category and received commendations in the International Trade and Business of the Year categories.

Bowers & Jones managing director Jane Sommerville said: “We are very proud to have been named as a finalist for the Express & Star Business Awards.

“It reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone in our team and is especially pleasing after our string of success at other recent business awards.

“As a traditional Black Country manufacturer, we are thrilled to be recognised by our region’s most well-known news brand and look forward to celebrating with other leading West Midlands businesses at the awards ceremony in June.”

To be shortlisted for the Small Business of the Year award, Bowers & Jones had to demonstrate evidence of a clear strategy, growth, excellence in its field, investment in training and effective marketing.

Established in 1955 and acquired by Jane Sommerville and Nicola Owen in 2020, Bowers & Jones has experienced four consecutive years of turnover growth. The company serves more than 300 customers across the UK, North America, Europe and beyond, and is a world leader in the design, manufacture and refurbishment of roll tooling and rolling mill products.

The business specialises in manufacturing tools used to roll long products such as welded and seamless tube and pipe, steel sections and complex copper extrusions. Its products are increasingly used in non-steel applications including electrical conduction and heating cable.

With significant growth set to continue through newly secured contracts in the USA, Bowers & Jones continues to strengthen its position as a leading manufacturer in the international metal forming industry.
